Presentation Proposal
I have chosen to create a chat show because I watch a lot of chat shows so i know what goes on during a chat show and how to act, how to respond and what type of questions to ask. Also I am really good at keeping the conversation going and flowing all the way through so that my audience wouldn't get bored and also i think like a fan so i would ask the questions that fans would want to know to keep them engaged.
I think that the type of chat show that i will make will be an entertainment chat show were the presenter and the guest can talk informally as if they are having a conversation between friends also it would be humorous this would be to keep audiences engaged. For example it would be quite similar to the Jonathan Ross show.
If my chat show does not pan out like I wanted then my two different types that I will use as a type of back up plan. Those are magazine show and game show. i have chosen those two because those are the types of shows I watch the most therefore I am able to get more ideas from them.
Chat show
A chat show presenter that performs these type of roles is Jonathan when he talks with his guest he speaks as if they are friends also he jokes around with the guest making them and the audience laugh. Also he also makes jokes about the celebrity guest for example in an interview with a Taylor Swift she said that there were models at Fashion Week and Jonathan kind of makes a joke that of course there are models its fashion week which then makes the audience laugh. A verbal technique that Jonathan Ross uses is a good pace of delivery he speaks not to fast but not to slow at the right pace to make the audience understand what he is saying but at a good pace to keep the interview going at a good time. A visual technique that he has is that he dresses very formally in a suit and tie this shows that it may be an entertaining and funny show but also there are some seriousness to what he is saying and that he also takes his job very seriously.
Another chat show presenter that performs theses type of roles is Ellen Degeneres on her chat show Ellen this is broadcasted in the United States but has become a hit in the United Kingdom now. She sits with the guest and she has a chat with her guest and also makes jokes with them. In the clip her guest Kourtney Kardashian facetimes with her sister Khloe Kardashian, which already engages the audience if they like the Kardashians. A verbal technique that Ellen uses is that she has an American accent since it is originated in America and most of her guest are American but it is also very easy for the british to understand what she is saying since the accents and the things they say are a little similar even though there are some differences in things that Americans say. A visual technique that she uses is gestures to emphasis what she is saying to her guest and also without hand gestures it makes it look very boring and dull.
Another chat show presenter that performs these types of roles is the Jeremey Kyle show which is a little different to the other two chat shows that I have selected is because in the Jeremy kyle show they still have a presenter and guests however these are not celebrities however sometimes they can be if they do a celebrity special but the presenter Jeremy Kyle try's to sort out the guests personal lives for example by if a couple come on stage and one of the couple thinks the other one has cheated they can do a lie detector to see if they were telling the truth or not a visual technique that is used by Jeremy Kyle is that he dresses in a suit to show that what he does is very serious and needs to be taken seriously when is giving out advice to people. A verbal technique that is used is that he uses a good tone of voice and also has different tones of voice in different circumstances for example of someone is in the wrong he might shout at them because they aren't listening and he needs to get what he is saying across to the guests.
Chat show is my chosen type of show that I would like to create because I like the way that the presenters usually interacts with their guest stars as if their friends also I usually watch Chat show out of all types of shows because the celebrity's that usually appears on them I really like. My show will be like any regular chat show but I would like dramatic guests that have gossip to spread which would make my show better and they would be more interested. My target audience would most likely be aimed at 16 - 50 years due to the celebrity guest I would want on my show and the fact that on chat shows sometimes they do challenges and thats something that I would like to to add on my chat show and I cant imagine someone being above that age would be interested. Verbal techniques that I would use is a catchphrase maybe something to start of the show and to end it and possibly my catchphrase would be catchy and hopefully the audience could start saying it and whenever they say it they think of my show. One of my visual techniques would be to dress formally so that I would be taken seriously. My show would be on a set and it would most likely air in the evening due to it might not be suitable for children under 16.
Magazine show
A magazine that I watch the most and get my ideas from is 'This Morning'. The presenters are always a man and woman and it's mainly Phillip Schofield and Holly Wiloughby. On the show they are located on a made up set in the ITV studio. They usually deal with quite serious issues but they also know how to make other subjects interesting and humorous. For example they have a kitchen on set and they get a cook named Gino Di'campo and when they try out the food that he is tasting they are incredibly funny it just looks like there having a good time this would make the audience feel very involved it would feel realistic because it looks like the people on screen are friends in real life. A visual technique that is used on This Morning is the presenters body language they usually sit with their back straight and it makes them look very professional and it makes the audience realise they know what they are talking about. Whereas if they were leaning on the couch with their feet up it would look like the presenters were not bothered to be there and it would make the audience not want to listen to what they are talking about. A verbal technique that they use is that they are British presenters on a British day time television show so there target audience will understand what they are saying and what have any questions or queries about what was said.
I have chosen a magazine show because it doesn't always have to all seriousness but can be quite humorous so I quite like the contrast. My magazine show would be very similar to This Morning however my magazine show I would like to do in the evening and I will talk about things going on with possibly television shows or celebrities it could be anything but I would like to interview someone. My target audience would be for males and females aged 16 - 35 because the type of people I would want to interview would be quite celebrities that are usually in magazines for example the Kardashians. To be successful in this my visual technique would include very good body language since that would show I know what I am doing and that I am actually interested in what the person is saying. A verbal technique would be to have a good and positive tone of voice because if it sounds bored and dull people may tune out of my show when the aim is to have people watching. This would be on a created set using a green screen for a nice background view.
Game show
A game show that I watch and gives me some ideas for my back up game show is 'Cash Trapped' this tv game show is on ITV. The game includes 6 people who are against reach other to get as much money as they can and the person with the most money at the end gets the chance of leaving the show with that amount of money but the remaining 5 must team up to stop that person from leaving the show with that money. If the person with the most money answers a question right before any of the others they have the ability to cash trap a player and then it would remain as 4 and so on. but if the time runs out and there are still people that person has cash trapped they are then all cash trapped and the game moves on to the next day. This show is presented by Bradley Walsh and he uses humour but also seriousness to interact with the players and the audience at home and in the audience. A verbal technique that he uses is that he has very good usage of language for example he is very formal in what he says and is also very good at explaining the game to the people at home that are not familiar with the show. A visual technique is that he wears suits which makes him look very professional and it looks like he knows what he's doing.
I have chosen a game show to do as another back up plan because I think it would be fun and exciting to do and it could be educational for example the questions that would get asked. This would be a game show similar to cash trapped were the contestants go against each other to win the money also it could be good television if it starts conflict. My target audience would be aimed for males and females aged 18 years and older because that would be the age that they would be able to go on the show therefore it may not appeal to anyone younger. A verbal technique used is the presenters pace of delivery when explaining the game Bradley Walsh talks at an appropriate pace so that they can understand the game thats something that I would use for my game show. Also a visual technique would be good body language no slouching or looking bored or tired i would need to standing up straight and very presentable. Some problems that I may encounter is that the game I come up with might be to similar to regular game shows and it could be come to boring because its as if everyone has seen it before.
